The 34 Best Chocolate Advent Calendars For Christmas 2020

Let's face it, 2020 has been a sucky year. Dominated by the devastatingly-destructive COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, pretty much all joy and excitement has been sucked out of this year.

But we're not far from December now and Christmas will still hopefully be a time of good cheer (albeit with socially-distanced merriment). The approach of Yuletide means that the chocoholic's favourite tradition is finally upon us - chocolate advent calendars for 2020! Hurrah!

As I did for Christmas 2019 and Christmas 2018, I've scoured the web looking for my favourite chocolate advent calendars for 2020. This year, as well as my favourites from big brands, I've used my local chocolate finder to find small businesses with big ideas. This list is sorted by price, from most expensive to the cheapest.

Top Tip: Some of these advent calendars - especially those by artisan chocolatiers and craft chocolate makers - are often available only in very limited quantities, so if you are interested in any of these, I recommend you place an order as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

2 The Chocolate Smiths Ultimate Chocolate Advent Calendar

£70 | 1.06kg

The Chocolate Smiths Ultimate Chocolate Advent Calendar

Epic doesn't begin to explain this chunky advent calendar. The Chocolate Smiths describe it as "the most chocolatey advent calendar ever". For those unfamiliar with The Chocolate Smiths, they create a Bizarre range of chocolate bars in weird and wonderful flavours. Their bars frequently sell out in a heartbeat, and this advent calendar is no different. Get in when the opportunity next arises and you'll not be disappointed.

Each day for the first 24 days of December you'll open the door to a generous 40g Bizarre chocolate bar. Most advent calendars stop there but this one gives you a double-size bar (100g in fact) on Christmas Day.

They're keeping their cards close to their chest on flavours - and I'd hope to see a few festive treats in there - but they have teased some flavours. There's Bubblegum Sundae; Salted Caramel Brownie; Banoffee Bread; Pineapple Upside Down Cake; Caramel Apple; Peanut Clutter; and even a 99 Bizarre bar that they reckon tastes just like a soft serve ice cream topped with raspberry sauce.

If, like me, you enjoy weird and wonderful chocolate flavours, this is the advent calendar for you.

My favourites from 2019 and 2018 - The Grand Advent Calendar and the Chocolate Advent Calendar For Two - are back again this year, and are the perfect choices for Hotel Chocolat addicts and those that like to share (or have double helpings of) their chocolates each day.

For 2020, my top pick is The Everything Advent Calendar. 24 doors hide milk, dark and white chocolates from across the Selectors range, featuring caramels, pralines and truffles.

TRIED & TESTED
I'm a Hotel Chocolat addict and have reviewed all sorts, reviewing their Mellow Tasting Box, enjoying a Rare & Vintage bar tasting flight, and devouring vegan chocolate cherries. I also had a session with their Velvetiser hot chocolate maker to see it in action (and taste test the results).

Smaller in scale to the Grand Advent Calendar (£68), this alternative gives you a daily taste of Hotel Chocolat throughout December in a more pocket-friendly way.

Other notable advent calendars in the range this year include a vegan 100% cacao advent calendar (£12.50), and a Free From vegan advent calendar (£8), which is free from dairy, nuts, gluten and wheat. Hotel Chocolat reckon it's perfect for milk chocolate lovers with a mellow, creamy taste.

For some people, Christmas and Cadbury chocolate goes hand-in-hand, and I for one enjoy raiding the annual tub of Cadbury Heroes. While you could get the Cadbury Heroes Advent Calendar (£4.99°), my favourite from the Cadbury range this year is this simple-yet-stylish Dairy Milk advent calendar.

TRIED & TESTED
I'm pretty sure most people have tried Cadbury chocolate at some point in their lives. In case it's been a while, here's my Cadbury Dairy Milk Premier League Football Pitch Bar review.

Each day presents a new chunk of Cadbury Dairy Milk, in either original, Whole Nut, or Caramel edition. There's 24 in this calendar. My only gripe is that the Dairy Milk chunks are individually wrapped, which creates unnecessary waste, albeit in exchange for a fresher tasting chocolate.

Whichever chocolate advent calendar you choose this year, I urge you to find your local chocolate shops and support them as much as you can. Many chocolate businesses rely on Christmas trade to survive, and the impact of COVID-19 means this Christmas is going to be particularly tough for many businesses, big and small, across the country.
